Web 2.0 Tools and Multimedia
Here are some Web 2.0 and other multimedia tools that may provide useful for new project assignments:
Wordle
Wordle is an online tool that you can use to make word clouds. You can have students
experiment with it--put an essay they wrote in it and see which words are the
most prominent (they appear bigger in the Wordle). Put specific words in it to
create an image to describe an idea or concept. There are many ways to use it!

Voki is a Web site where you can create talking avatars. It has a free version and a paid version, Voki Classroom. Students can create Vokis to deliver reports, create characters, and more. A lesson plan database is available to search for ideas in the classroom.
VoiceThread
VoiceThread is s an interactive discussion tool, or as a storytelling or presentation tool, VoiceThread provides users with the ability to combine still images with voice-overs to narrate.
Animoto
A very simple online video-creation tool combining still images and video that is very easy to learn. Animoto provides copyright free music for background, automatic mixing, and the ability to use their copyright-free images or your own.
Glogster
Glogster is an online interactive poster creation tool. Students can use Glogster to create online posters that feature videos, music, photos and other images, and text.
Podcasting
Podcasting technology allows users to record audio programs for use on the Internet. Podcasts are the "new radio" and can be recorded on your computer, uploaded to a storage site, and then shared and broadcasted online. A great program for recording and editing podcasts is Audacity.
Wikis
Wikis are shared Web sites that allow multiple users to contribute and change content. Wikis can be used as a collaborative tool for students who are doing research together or as an end-product to a project. Wikis allow educators to monitor content, view the history of contributions and changes, and more.
GoogleDocs
GoogleDocs is a collection of online programs similar to Microsoft Office tools, that include word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs. The great thing about GoogleDocs is that they are free, accessible from any computer with Internet access, and users can collaborate on projects.
